On 5 September 2026 we discovered that our website had been attacked and compromised by unknown third parties over a period of several months. We cleaned up the incident the same day and reported it to the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
The attackers gained access to our publishing system and injected malicious code. On every page view, this code transmitted technical data about our visitors to an external server: IP address, referring page, browser identification and language setting. The affected period runs from 16 May to 5 September 2026.
The attackers also had access to our database, which held comment data (name, email address, IP address) and two contact form submissions.
Whether this data was actually taken cannot be determined. It was possible.
Our articles were not altered — not a single line of what we published was touched.
Login credentials could not have been affected, because none ever existed here: this site has no user accounts, no login and no password. Commenting, too, required no account.
The malicious code has been fully removed and every system file verified against the official originals. All access credentials have been renewed, security settings hardened, and the incident thoroughly documented.
There is no password for you to change — we never had one. A comment stored only a name, an email address and an IP address.
What is worth watching for: if the email address was taken, it may be used for advertising, or for messages claiming to come from us. We never ask for credentials, never send attachments and never request payments. If something like that reaches you in our name, please tell us.
